Until ROTE, we had no idea formaldehyde – a known human carcinogen, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer – was in clothing. With its excellent preserving properties, the chemical is prevalent in clothing production for wrinkle and crease resistance, and helps dyes and inks better penetrate fabrics; it also plays a significant role in the fashion industry to help prevent mildew when transporting. Headaches and sore throats arise for many when wearing new clothes without washing them, due to formaldehyde. The chemical can also cause respiratory problems and skin irritation.

Hold is hand-sewn and hand-cut in Bali by a small, ethically-managed team. The fabrics we use are soft yet strong, like the spirits we design for. Our sustainable techno-fabric, made of a ECONYL® regenerated Nylon that turns waste problems into fashion and interior solutions. Vita is versatile, hyper-resistant, thin, soft and breathable: a unique mix of muscular compression and comfort. It is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified. The results are beautiful and something you can feel good about wearing.

We were weekend gardeners, saving seed in the typical envelopes and plastic baggies. Being designers by day, we decided to try our hand at creating a kit that could neatly store seed in a compact case that not only functioned well but looked good too. So we did. Just for fun we sent a prototype to the largest English garden company we could think of. To our surprise, they called and wanted everything we had in stock. We said some crazy number but in reality we had one. A mix of excitement, panic and many long nights followed but we made the order by the deadline and Potting Shed Creations, Ltd. was born. Twenty years have passed since that very first design and even today, with each new product, the thrill remains.
